A few years ago, I began experimenting with fonts.
My goal was to find matching fonts that were not only pleasing to the eye but also helped me tell a better story.
So when Glorify announced that we could upload our custom fonts, I was over the moon.
I started digging into it.
As time went on, I found beautiful fonts that matched together.
Take this design as an example.
As some of you may know, I’m into the outdoors!
I absolutely love sitting around an open fire, looking at the stars, preparing my own meal, and talking to my buddies.
It was back in 2006 when my best mate and I traveled to Malawi and spent 6 months in a small village in Lirangwe…
The village had no electricity or running water.
We worked our asses off as volunteers, trying to make the place better.
In our free time, mostly in the evenings, we would sit around the fire, play djembes, watch kids dance, gaze at the most incredible stars I’ve ever seen, and have the best time of our lives!
Being in a place like that taught me a powerful lesson.
True happiness, without a doubt, comes from within, not from what you have or own or think about having.
We had no phones or other electronics.
No internet.
Completely stripped of the life we knew, and yet we still found it to be the best time of our lives.
I don’t know if you have been to Africa, to a place where there is no electricity, no light pollution, but if you have, you know what the sky looks like at night.
And how intense it can get.
How detailed and pronounced the constellations are.
And how mind-blowing the Milky Way actually is…
How lucky you are to be there, because no matter where you go in Europe, even in the darkest place, you can NEVER see so many stars and the Milky Way the way you see it in Africa…
And it makes you so incredibly happy…
On top of that, you smoke a joint and boy, you’re soooo transformed, you can never go back to your old self.
Completely rewired.
A total holistic experience.
You start looking at your life in a different way.
Asking questions like, who the hell am I?
Why do I worry so much?
Why am I so attached to materialistic things?
And you actually find happiness in having less and living a simple life.
Now, thinking about everything I learned in Africa, from these powerful experiences to the art and how I design images today, where my inspiration comes from, you wouldn’t be surprised if I told you to shut your computer and go live your life, would you?
Go for an overnight trip out in nature.
Learn how to use simple tools like a knife.
Start a fire.
Make a meal.
Think and reflect.
Come back fully charged, with new ideas.
Live your life my friend!
